MATERIAL 1: Understanding the Structure of a Scientific Article

Learning Objective

After completing this learning activity, students are expected to be able to identify and understand the main structure of a scientific article, particularly an article related to nutrition and health sciences.

Learning Instructions

1. Read the learning material about the structure of a scientific article carefully. The learning material can be accessed through the following link: https://saidahrauf.com/berita/detail/struktur-artikel-ilmiah

2. Pay attention to the main sections of a scientific article, including:

   • Title

   • Abstract

   • Keywords

   • Introduction

   • Methods

   • Results

   • Discussion

   • Conclusion

   • References

3. Understand the purpose and function of each section.

4. Pay special attention to the IMRAD structure: Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion.

5. Identify common English expressions and academic vocabulary used in scientific articles.

6. Read the examples provided in the learning material before taking the quiz.

7. Make sure you understand the differences between the Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion sections.

MATERIAL 2: Summarizing and Paraphrasing Scientific Information

Learning Objective

After completing this learning activity, students are expected to be able to summarize and paraphrase scientific information using clear and appropriate academic English.

Assignment Instructions

Each student is required to find and download one scientific journal article related to a nutrition topic through PubMed.

Please follow these steps:

1. Go to PubMed and search for a scientific journal article related to nutrition: PubMed
2. Each student must select and download one different article. The same article may not be used by more than one student.
3. Choose an article that is relevant to a nutrition or health-related topic.
4. Read the article carefully, especially the abstract and main findings.
5. Complete the summarizing and paraphrasing assignment based on the selected article.
6. Write the summary and paraphrase in your own words using clear and appropriate academic English.
7. Include the title of the article, authors, year of publication, and article link in your assignment.
8. Do not copy sentences directly from the original article.
9. Bring the downloaded article together with your completed assignment.

Submission

The assignment must be submitted in class on Monday, September 7, 2026, at 8:00 AM.
